100 QAF Drabbles - Drabbles 1-15
Feb. 7th, 2009 10:30 amWhen I realized
qaf_drabbles was coming up on 100 prompts, I decided it would be fun to write a drabble for each of the 100 prompts as a present to the mods and the community. Insane might be a better word than fun, but I did do it.
tweedygal was crazy enough to write a set of her own (which you can find at
qaf_drabbles) as well as kind enough to beta mine. The very talented
brianslave68 made the beautiful banner for me as well as surprising me with some personalized drabble icons.
I'm going to repost the drabbles here is small sets so I don't overwhelm you. I hope you enjoy them. They were a lot of fun to write since I really got a chance to explore all the characters in little 100 word bursts.

Challenge #1: Porn – Sex Toys
Fast Learner
The first time he left a dildo out on the bed, Justin blushed. Brian smirked, then fucked him with the dildo until he was begging to come.
Justin couldn’t look him in the eye when he brought out the restraints and talked about boundaries and safe words. Brian pretended not to notice when Justin slipped the blindfold into his bookbag the next morning.
When Justin asked him to grab his history book off the counter, Brian grumbled, but complied. The empty butt plug package caused his eyebrows to rise. When he saw Justin’s confident smile, he knew he was fucked.
Challenge #2: Hearts and Flowers
Say It With Flowers
Emmett paced around the room, pausing at each turn to glare at the bouquet. If Drew thought a few measly flowers would fix anything, he had another thing coming.
He should just throw them out; that would show Drew. Decision made, Emmett stalked over to the table, but he stopped short of grabbing the flowers. They really were beautiful. He couldn’t help but admire the skillful combination of sunflowers and day lilies.
Emmett reluctantly reached for the card. After reading Drew’s handwritten and heartfelt message, he brought the card to his lips and sighed. Then he picked up the phone.
Challenge #3: Winter Blues
A Different Perspective
Brian was sick of snow and slush and freezing rain. He’d had enough of scarves and gloves and most especially coats, which had a tendency to hide Justin’s stunning ass.
He was contemplating a trip to Miami when his phone rang.
“Hey Dad, Mom said it snowed in Pittsburgh,” Gus’s cheerful voice greeted him.
“Yes, it did.” Brian made a face and looked out the window.
“So can we build a snowman and go skating when I visit this weekend?” Gus asked eagerly.
“Sure, Gus.” Brian smiled and made a mental note to stock up on hot chocolate. And marshmallows.
Challenge #4: Song Lyrics
A Question of Lust (Depeche Mode)
It’s a question of lust
It’s a question of trust
It’s a question of not letting
What we’ve built u-p
Crumble to dust
It is all of these things and more
That keep us together
People asked how things were with Justin all the time. If they were looking to satisfy their curiosity or get fodder for the gossip mill, Brian ignored them. Even when Debbie or Michael, someone who actually cared, asked, Brian just shrugged.
There wasn’t anything to say. He won’t tell them how much he missed him or he hadn’t expected being apart to be this hard. He didn’t want their sympathy or advice.
Because what they couldn’t understand was that in moments like this when he was with Justin, kissing him, touching him, fucking him, he knew it was worth it.
Challenge #5: Minor Characters
Unexpected Family
Carl considered himself a fairly conservative man. After his wife died, he hoped he’d meet a nice, quiet lady who’d take care of him. Instead, he fell in love with Debbie. And while he wouldn’t trade her for anything, he’d never expected to spend his days surrounded by gay men, let alone share his home with one.
Carl took a lot of ribbing over that, and sometimes he was embarrassed. But when one of Debbie’s boys asked for him by name and told his story with determination instead of shame, Carl knew he was where he was meant to be.
Challenge #6: St. Patrick’s Day
Unwanted Tradition
The first beer Brian ever shared with his father was green. He was thirteen, and Jack told him it was time he started celebrating St. Patrick’s Day “like a man.”
Joan had made a token protest, but left without a word when Jack told her to mind her own business.
Jack came back from the bar that night drunk on more than beer and gave Brian a black eye for leaving his glass on the table.
Green beer with his son became a yearly tradition, and Jack made sure Brian took part. Once he died, Brian never touched it again.
Challenge #7: Word Theme - Shout, Table, Flame
Therapy
“Will someone get the microphone off of him?” Brian shouted over Emmett’s singing.
“I’m trying,” Ted paused in his pursuit of Emmett. “but he’s surprisingly fast for someone that drunk.”
Another closeted boyfriend and another bitter breakup had left Emmett seeking solace at Woody’s. Several drinks later, he’d commandeered karaoke night to drunkenly declare, through song, the obvious – he was an out and proud gay man.
“Please God, make it stop.” Justin moaned as Emmett leapt onto a table in time to warble out the chorus of his version of the Celine Dion Titanic anthem, “My Flame Will Go On.”
Challenge #8: Self Insertion
What a Sight!
Debbie was late for her shift at the PFLAG Pride booth, but as she rushed through the crowd, she noticed two women staring at -- yep Brian and Justin were making out in front of the diner again. She looked carefully to make sure they were watching in admiration, not disgust. Satisfied they were, she paused, “They make a handsome couple, don’t they?”
“They sure do,” one agreed. The younger one nodded, but neither of them took their eyes off Brian and Justin.
Debbie chuckled and started walking again, but not before she also took a moment to enjoy the view.
Challenge #9: Shopping
First Reunion
Justin would never admit it, but when he first moved to New York, he missed Daphne more than he missed Brian. Brian called all the time and spent almost every weekend in New York. But Daphne was busy with classes and talking to her on the phone just wasn’t the same.
She showed up the first day of winter break and happily declared, “I have a ton of Christmas shopping to do and what better place to do it than New York.” They spent the next week talking and hugging and laughing. They even made it to a few stores.
Challenge #10: Rage
Desperation
Ben had always found comfort in words. But faced with the possibility of Michael’s death, he didn’t know what to say in the few moments he had before they wheeled his husband off for emergency surgery. There weren’t enough words to tell Michael how much he loved him, needed him.
“Rage, Michael,” he said finally, turning to someone else’s words. “Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Do not go gentle into that good night.”
Ben broke down and cried. “Do not go, Michael. Don’t go gentle or any other fucking way because I can’t do this without you.”
Challenge #11: Picture This
Waving Goodbye
There were several pictures from the show to choose from. The drabble was to be inspired by the picture, but not about the scene the picture came from. I choose this picture:

“You know I used to pray for this day,” Debbie said as they watched the Corvette drive away. “Brian leaving, and you finally having a chance for a life of your own.”
“And now?”
“And now, you have a life of your own. You have a wonderful husband and a family. But I still prayed for this day because it’s broken my heart to see Brian and Sunshine separated these last few years. They deserve a life of their own too. And New York’s not that far.”
“No, it’s not,” Michael agreed, as they turned away from the empty street.
Challenge #12: Sleepy
Reassurance
After Justin said yes, Brian was in no hurry to return to Pittsburgh. They took their time fucking, and afterword neither of them moved to get dressed. The floor was hard, the room chilly, but the emotion of the last few days finally caught up with him, and Brian dozed off. He stirred briefly to find Justin staring at him, head propped up on one elbow as he struggled to stay awake.
“Go to sleep,” Brian said, tugging his hand down so he’d relax. “I’m not going to change my mind.”
“I know.”
He didn’t, Brian knew, but he would.
Challenge #13: Dialog
Nobody Likes Mondays
“I’m firing Morgan.”
“You can’t fire someone every Monday.”
“I’m serious this time, Theodore. Read his suggested ad slogans and see if you don’t agree.”
“Dear God, he can’t be serious. ‘Tasty Holes Are Great for Sharing.’ ‘Start Your Morning With a Tasty Hole or Two.’ ‘Eat One Tasty Hole and You’ll Be Coming Back for More.’ What the fuck are you selling?”
“Tasty Time Donuts is promoting a line of donut holes as a lower calorie alternative.”
“He seems to have left out a rather important word in these slogans.”
“This is what I get for hiring straight people.”
Challenge #14: Kisses
Wedding Day
“You may kiss the bride.”
Having all but given up on ever hearing those words, Carl savored their first kiss while ignoring the whistles and catcalls from behind them.
“I told you we’d get here,” Debbie beamed at him before turning to the crowd. “All right, who’s next?”
“We are, Ma.”
Michael and Ben stepped up to take their place. Once Debbie found out same sex marriage would be legal throughout the country, she’d booked a judge for the whole day. Their marriage was just the first of many in their family, and Carl wouldn’t have it any other way.
Challenge #15: Double Play (Celebration and Clothes)
Friendly Help
“Teddy, meet me at Torso in ten minutes.”
“Oh no, Emmett. You only take me to Torso when there’s a clearance sale, and you need someone to carry your bags.” Ted shuddered at the memory of the last sale Emmett had dragged him to.
“It’s the Pre-Pride sale! You can’t miss it. Think of all those lonely clothes just begging for homes. We’ll find you something fabulous for the parade.” Emmett wasn’t above bribery. Those bags could get heavy. He closed in for the kill. “Pride, Teddy. It’s not just a sale, it’s a celebration.”
“Make it fifteen,” Ted sighed.
