Wish List Meme
Nov. 26th, 2004 06:50 pmI wasn't going to do this for a lot of reasons, but I've been really intrigued by the idea of figuring out ten things that would truly make me happy. So here goes.
The rules
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. For my son to sleep through the night.
2. A U.S. Erasure tour with at least one city close enough for me to go to.
3. Love - I'd like everyone who reads this to think of one person they really love and one person who truly loves them. Then take a few minutes to appreciate what a gift and blessing it is to have love in our live. I honestly think if everyone did this most of hate in this world could be eliminated. On a related note, my mom said something really amazing yesterday. She was talking about how my grandfather for boring family reasons is driving my uncle nuts and trying to explain why she doesn't get as frustrated with him. She said she doesn't know how much time she has left with him so no matter how crazy and demanding he can be, she tries to be nice to him, enjoy him, and make him happy. Not a bad way to look at any relationship.
4. Healing - In the past year we have had a few relationships become irreparably damaged due to jealousy and spite on the part of people we considered family. We can't go back to what we had, but I'd like to get to a point where the bitterness stops and it's no longer an open wound that seems to haunt us. I wish the same for anyone who needs it.
5. A better world for animals - for me that means more vegetarians, an end to animal cruelty and enforced captivity, and places where they can live freely and safely.
6. An icon. Just one Brian/Justin icon to show up under my name.---Thank you so much
phluphee for the wonderful icons! And I did figure out how to use them!
7. For the amazing QAF authors who were driven out of the fandom last year because of Cowlip's stupidity or fandom insanity to come back.
8. Fic - I want a decent length Brian/Justin or Viggo/Orlando fic that makes me feel. No major angst or complete fluff. I'm partial to stories that deal with their lives together and how their love is part of that. If I can be specific, I'd love more of
jasmineskie's Magic Happens Series.
9. An end to my writer's block on my Drew/Emmett story.
10. For 2005 to be a better, happier, and healthier year for my family, friends, and everyone on my flist.
