Challenge #91: Blue Lights
Piece of Home

Justin’s dreams are tinged with blue. It is the color of discovery, of hope and healing, and of sadness. His favorite memories are drenched in blue. So are some of his worst, but that makes the others all the sweeter. He wakes up every morning half expecting Brian to be sleeping next to him bathed in blue light.

When Justin finally gets his own apartment, he takes the old blue lights out of storage and mounts them above his bed. He knows Brian will probably laugh and tell him he’s ridiculously sentimental, but he doesn’t care. They feel like home.

Challenge #92: Jeans
No Doubts

Ted hears something fall from the pocket of Blake’s jeans when he pulls them out of the hamper. For a moment, he flashes back several years to another discovery, one that brought his world crashing down. Ted pushes the memories aside after all, there’s nothing to be gained by dwelling on the past.

Bending down he picks up the fallen object and rolls the cylinder across his palm, not at all surprised by what he finds. Chuckling, he pops a Lifesaver into his mouth, making a note to remind Blake to empty his pockets before putting clothes in the laundry.

Challenge #93: Art
Art Appreciation

“Is this an ad agency or an art museum?”

Chad winced and hoped Brian wasn’t lurking in the hallway. Mr. Arnold’s account was pretty small, but if his business kept growing, it could be Chad’s best chance to prove himself. He didn’t want Brian pissed at his client.

“As you know, Kinnetik is a highly successful advertising agency. Our owner also has an eye for artwork, these pieces as well as the others displayed are quite sought after and valuable.” Chad said smoothly.

Stan Arnold looked at the Justin Taylor originals adorning the conference room and shrugged, “Whatever you say.”

Challenge #94: Dialog
Family Update
This goes with the series of drabbles I wrote for the original challenge although it stands on its own. You can find the others here:

“Justin had his first show in New York last weekend.”

“I went with Jennifer. Justin was so surprised to see us since it was just a small show, but we wouldn’t have missed it for the world. He had five pieces, and they all sold. Can you believe it!”

“And Brian, well, I don’t think he took his eyes off Justin all night. They looked so happy together. I’ve been worried about those two being apart so much, but they’re doing just fine.”

“I wish you could have been there Vic. You would have been as proud as I was.”

Challenge #95: Cold
Fashion Sense

“Did you get the last picture of Gus I sent? I can’t believe how much he looks like you.”

“Lindsay, you sent me a picture of a snowsuit with eyes. The only thing it resembles is an overzealous L.L. Bean ad. I can’t even be sure it’s Gus.”

“It’s cold,” Lindsay replied defensively. “And he looks adorable in his snowsuit.”

“Arctic explorers have gone out in less gear. And neon green, for fuck’s sake? I’m sending him a charcoal overcoat with coordinating cashmere hat, scarf, and mittens.”

“Brian,” Lindsay laughed, “he’s building snowforts not modeling.”

“Fine, a new black snowsuit.”

Challenge #96: ‘Tis the Season
Christmas Traditions

Every year Brian checked out flights to Hawaii and Greece, swearing he was going away for Christmas.

Yet, every year he ended up at Deb’s watching Gus and JR tear through their pile of presents, helping put toys together before exchanging gifts with everyone else. He bitched and moaned, but Melanie always poured whiskey in their coffee, and Debbie made enough food for an army. By the end of the day, he was a little drunk and a lot full, and five games of Battleship didn’t seem so bad. Especially after slipping upstairs with Justin for an hour of fucking.

Challenge #97: Laughter
Sick Day

Michael tried not to panic every time Ben got sick. Especially when the doctor promised it was just a stomach flu, and a few days rest was all Ben needed. But Michael was genetically programmed to worry so he turned the shop over to Hunter and headed home.

Ben woke when he kissed his forehead, pretending he wasn’t checking for fever. Michael set the Monty Python box set on the table. “They say laughter is the best medicine so I thought we could laugh together,” Michael tried to sound casual.

Ben smiled and made room for Michael on the couch.

Challenge #98: Bubbles
Better Than Food

The sauce was just starting to bubble when Justin turned the heat off. He sliced the bread quickly then walked over to the desk where Brian was working, “Hey, dinner’s ready.”

Brian pulled him on to his lap and kissed him. “Not hungry,” he mumbled between kisses.

“You skipped lunch; you should eat,” Justin tried to sound firm, but he couldn’t resist tilting his head back as Brian licked his neck.

Brian cupped his ass and pulled him closer, rubbing their cocks together. “The only thing I want to eat right now is your ass.”

Justin decided dinner could wait.

Challenge #99: Cold & Windy
Working Lunch

“Mother fucker,” Brian unsuccessfully grabbed for the papers the wind blew off the table when the door opened.

“Here,” Justin scooped them up off the floor, handing them back to Brian.

“Thanks,” Brian grunted, checking to make sure none of the slush everyone tracked into the diner marred his reports. “Deb, would it kill you to mop the floor in here?”

“Don’t you have a nice clean office to work in?” Debbie a shot back. “Our coffee’s not that good.”

Brian watched Justin bend over to wipe off a table. “No, but the view is,” he said with a leer.

Challenge #100: Celebrate
Worth Celebrating

They didn’t do this often, only a few times a year. But when Justin told Brian he had a week free in April, Brian arranged to meet him at the house.

Spring hadn’t arrived yet so Justin wasn’t surprised by the fire, but he wasn’t expecting the champagne. “Are we celebrating?”

Brian nodded, grinning happily as he moved toward Justin. He buried his fingers in Justin’s hair, kissing him softly.

“What’s the occasion?” Justin asked.

“Do we need one?”

Justin smiled up at Brian before returning his kiss. Relaxing into his arms, Justin decided this was reason enough to celebrate.
