The Gayest DVD Ever!
Dec. 13th, 2004 02:34 pmI almost never post anything here except stories, but I got a DVD I love so much I have to share!
If you read my stories you know I adore Erasure. For those of you not familiar with them here's a quick summary. There are two members. Vince Clark does all the music kind of quiet stays in the background. Andy Bell is the singer. He is gay. Very, very gay. At times he makes Emmett look butch. The last time we saw them in concert he opened in a black full length Victorian gown before spending most of the show in a red leather corset.
In 1992 they did a small tour which was modeled after a Broadway show. Big sets, elaborate costumes, choreographed dance routines, lots of dancers etc. They finally released a DVD of one of the shows. I got it this weekend and considering it's 12 years old it may be one of the gayest shows out there.
Here are some of the highlights:
Andy's entrance is in a swan chariot and he is wearing a white feather boa.
Two men in short wigs, high heels, and very tight undies doing a combo of ballet and ballroom dancing complete with some crotch grinding.
4 ABBA songs
During one of the costume changes the background dancers have a western segment which I swear inspired the opening of 118. The two male dancers are in buttless chaps.
Vince in the worst drag outfit in the history of man.
Andy's cowboy outfit which from hat to buttless chaps is in royal blue sequins.
Andy jiggling his ass cheeks in his buttless chaps.
Singing "Stand By Your Man" in above outfit. And somehow without changing pulling off a lovely and dignified version of "The Soldier's Return."
Singing "Over the Rainbow" complete with ruby slippers. Before beginning the song he says he is singing it "in the face of all the nazi homophobic shitheads in the world." Those were his exact words, and his version is quite beautiful.
The whole show is really amazing and even if you are only a casual Erasure fan you should have it. End of gushing!
