Over the years Orlando had become so used to the trappings of celebrity that he barely thought about them, but on days like this when he borrowed a friend’s jet so he could fly to England, spend less than a day with Viggo and fly back before anyone noticed he’d gone, he couldn’t help but marvel at his life. For no one else, but Viggo would he even attempt such a thing. He hated thinking about how often they’d both done it, but the time together was more than worth the inconvenience.

Orlando knew he should try and sleep on the plane, but he was too excited to relax. Viggo had no idea he was coming, and imagining his reaction just added to the anticipation. Luckily, Viggo’s manager loved him so an extra key to Viggo’s room as well as secure passage to the hotel had already been secured. Orlando had also been assured that Viggo’s plans for the evening would be canceled at the last minute, leaving him no time to find something else to do.

Once Orlando arrived at Viggo’s hotel, he realized he had a few hours to kill before there was any chance of Viggo arriving. He took a quick shower and debated ordering room service. In the end, he decided he wasn’t really hungry, and the fewer people he interacted with before Viggo arrived the better. Instead, he stretched out on the bed for a quick nap.

He awoke to a kiss.

“You might be the one dreaming, but I’m the one wondering if this real,” Viggo whispered when the kiss ended.

“Don’t worry, I’m very real,” Orlando teased as he opened his eyes. A huge smile lit up his face when he saw Viggo leaning over him, and Orlando quickly pulled him closer for another kiss. “I had to be with you today.”

Viggo’s expression quickly changed from one of surprise and pleasure to concern. “Orli, is something wrong?”

“No, everything’s good,” Orlando hastily reassured him. “But when I realized what today was. I knew I had to find a way to see you. Can you believe it’s been ten years, Old Man?” Orlando shook his head; he still found it hard to believe.

“Ten years?” Viggo sounded puzzled, then his eyes widened. “Oh shit, babe, I forgot.”

“Vig, you’re in the middle of a damn publicity tour. Do you even know what day it is?”

Viggo’s eyes narrowed as he thought about, then he shook his head and laughed. “No fucking clue.” He flopped down next to Orlando on the bed. “So Elf Boy, what do you have planned for this momentous occasion?”

Orlando smiled at the old nickname. He rarely heard it any more even from Viggo. “Nothing, love. Just kick off your shoes and stay awhile.”

“So you hopped a plane and flew across the ocean just to spend the night with me?” Viggo rose from the bed just long enough to strip off most of his clothes before rejoining Orlando.

“Anytime I can. You know that.” Orlando saw flash of disappointment in Viggo’s eyes when he didn’t contradict his timeframe, but he ignored it just like he knew Viggo ignored the sadness he heard in Orlando’s voice. They already knew they wouldn’t be able to spend Viggo’s birthday together. This night was a gift.

Orlando turned onto his side so he was facing Viggo. He took a moment to study Viggo, to see all the little details a photo couldn’t capture, and he knew Viggo was doing the same. He reached toward him, tracing the lines of his face then gently twisting a lock of hair that slid over his fingers.

“I like your hair long,” he said softly. It wasn’t as dark as it had been in New Zealand, but it suited Viggo as he was today.

Viggo smiled and smoothed his hands over Orlando’s head. “I like you hair this way too.”

“What, short?” Viggo usually preferred his hair longer and curlier.

“No, on your head.”

“Cunt,” Orlando laughed.

“Always,” Viggo agreed, reaching out and trying to tickle Orlando.

Orlando grabbed his hands and pushed then behind Viggo’s back. Their chests pressed against each other, and Orlando rested his head in the hollow of Viggo’s neck. “Do you know what I thought when I first met you?”

“That I was a big cunt?” Viggo grunted as he twisted his hands free the rolled onto his back, pulling Orlando on top of him.

“No, that came later. The first thing I thought was that I wanted to shag you senseless.”

Viggo raised an eyebrow. “Come on, flatter an old man’s ego,” he urged when Orlando didn’t say more.

“I’d already heard all about you from the Hobbitts. And you know how they are,” Orlando rolled his eyes. He sat up and leaned against the headboard. Viggo stretched out and rested his head in Orlando’s lap. Orlando couldn’t help reaching down and playing with Viggo’s hair while they talked. There was nothing new in what he was telling Viggo, but they hadn’t reminisced about New Zealand in a while. They both found the memories comforting.

“They made you sound like some big swaggering American hero. Maybe John Wayne, yeah? From a distance you almost looked the part. You were dirty and sweaty and swinging your sword around while you walked But when you spoke, you were nothing like what I expected. You were kind and unassuming, but there was this intensity in your eyes. Sexy as fuck. Still are.”

“So it was lust at first sight?”

“Something like that,” Orlando agreed. He looked into the eyes that had captured his attention that first day and knew Viggo wasn’t fooled.

“When I first saw you, when I first saw Legolas,” Viggo corrected. “I found a piece of Arragorn’s heart I didn’t know I’d been missing. I didn’t realize it was my heart you held.”

“He always was smarter than you.” Orlando kept his voice light, but he knew his face betrayed how much Viggo’s words affected him. Orlando never doubted Viggo’s love, but being with him always reminded him of just how much it meant to him.

“I knew he would change my life, but I never dreamed of how.”

“Now who’s the flatterer.”

Viggo shook his head. “It’s not flattery, Orli, and you know it. You were breathtaking. You were this brash young kid, funny and cocky and not afraid of anything. But I knew the wisdom and grace you brought to Legolas came from you. I wanted to know you, to know how you came to be all those things. If I wasn’t such a stubborn old fool, I would have realized much sooner it was love not curiosity.”

“I love you, too. Stubborness and all. Maybe that’s what has kept us together all these years.”

“Ten years. It feels like a lifetime and only a day.” Viggo’s eyes misted. “I still have so much to learn about you, so much I want to do with you.”

“You have forever, you know that.” Orlando blinked to clear his own eyes.

“If you knew then where we would be in ten years, would it change anything?”

“Fuck yeah. I would have shagged you senseless the first day.”

“So what’s stopping you now?”

Orlando didn’t bother to answer. They’d have plenty of time to talk later. Much later.
