For the Bible Tells Me So

Last night my mother and I went to a local screening of For the Bible Tells Me So. What a wonderful film. I think it handled a sensitive topic very well-with knowledge, heart, and humor. I learned a lot about religion and how they use the Bible for oppression and hate. I feel much more informed now, but also angry. What made this film standout to me was the intersection of a very intellectual discussion of religion with incredibly personal stories of religious families dealing with homosexuality. The personal stories were inspiring and heartbreaking. If you have a chance to see this film, please do so. If you've already seen it, please let me know what you thought.

The screening I went to was sponsered by Equality Ohio and a local PFLAG group. Does TN have an equivilant group? Even without it maybe your PFLAG group could host a screening?

All the families are Christian, but one of the Biblical scholars is a Rabbi so there is at least a little of a Jewish perspective. There is actually one mother who reminded me of you. I hope you get to see it.
