I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but their was a brief description of Season 5 in the new Entertainment Weekly. In case anyone's interested,

"Queer as Folk(spring,Showtime)

Republications, beware: As W heads into a second term, the unapologetic series' fifth and final season will have an even more unapologetic political agenda. Both Michael and Ben's Canadian marriage and recently split Melanie and Lindsay's custody battle take center stage."

While it makes me sad to see final season in print, nothing in this write up inspires me to watch. Not only is there no mention of Brian and Justin, I cannot stand the thought of watching Mel and Linds fight over the kids. I hope, as sometimes happens, this doesn't reflect the actual focus of the season. The last season is not the time to try again to find the lesbians something to do. They are a waste of time, accept that and move on.

I realized this rewatching Season 3 over the last few days. I was only watching scenes with Brian and/or Justin, but I got distracted here and there. But I never stopped to watch any scenes with Melanie and Lindsay. I watched Ted and Emmett, Michael, Ben, and Hunter even Carl and Debbie. And since I got through the whole season, here are some ramblings on rewatching season.

I'm planning a somewhat angsty Brian and Justin story so I thought Season 3 would be a good thing to watch to remember what tension between them is like. I was wrong. Watching it now, there really isn't any major tension between them. I'm not sure I'm even convinced they actually broke up.

Ethan was a total waste of screen time. He's a bit more annoying than I remember, but never a real threat to Brian and Justin. It's actually kind of amusing to watch Justin try to convince himself and everyone else that he loves Ethan.

I love pissy defensive Justin. So cute.

I really liked Justin's early season three hair. Long, but not too much. Brian's not so much. And I think Gale Harold and Patrick Antosh had a brief ill fated affair. Revenge is the only explanation I have for Brian's clothes. On those same lines, why was Justin so washed out in 308? Did they forget to put make up on him? Still beautiful, but way too pale.

There is something oddly compelling about the tragic love that is Temmett.

I have the ability to completely block out stupid storylines. I completely forgot about Ben's steroid addiction. I fear for Ben in season 5 since the writers like to make him a jerk for some inappropriate reason for a few episodes every year. The steroids were bad enough, but jealous prick Ben was even worse.

I forgot how much Hunter humanized Michael for me. Until he bonded with Hunter, I still found Michael immature, annoying, and occasionally deserving of death. I was always hold 301 against him.

314 may be the best overall episode. With the exception of the lesbians I can watch every scene in that episode. Ted checking into rehab still makes me cry. Every second of Brian and Justin together is perfect. And while it may be sappy, I love the whole post election celebration.

Things I need to remember when writing fic. Justin is way smarter than I remember or most people write them. He likes to use big words and is wonderfully sarcastic. After 308, Brian makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is madly in love with Justin. It's so obvious. I don't think he's conflicted about it at all.

Enough rambling for one day. I'll try not to get pissed about season 5 until there are more reliable spoilers available.

I don't like the way that was worded either. I'll be really disappointed if S5 is centered around Ben and Michael and the lesbians. Both bore me to tears. This really should be Brian and Justin's season. Meh.
