It Won't Be Out There, It Can't Be Far )
There is a post over at [livejournal.com profile] qaf_coffeeclub about Brian and Justin and pets. In general, I fall on the side of no pets which led me to wonder under what circumstances I could see them ending up with a pet. In a continuing effort to prove I can still string more than two sentences together, I let my wondering lead to a short ficlet.

PS: I know [livejournal.com profile] queensoftarts is running a pets challenge this month, but I believe it is one of the anonymous challenges and since I already posted this on my IJ I can't really do that.

I'm very hit and miss with commenting and replying right now because I am spending a lot of my time on the election. I do read my flist daily, but often don't have time to interact. Sorry for neglecting you, but I will be around more in a few weeks.

In the meantime, here are the drabbles I have written recently. The cover the challenges First, Drunk, High or Horny, Babylon, Toppy Justin, Mornings, and Masturbation. As always they focus on a number of characters not just Brian and Justin. I hope you enjoy them.

11 Drabbles This Way )

I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] qaf_scavenger's Kissing Contest. Six drabbles for six kisses.

Feel It Like You Do )
The final challenge from Fandom Appreciation Week is to write a love letter to someone or something fandom related. I kind of of cheated on a previous challenge and unknowingly did something similar. But I decided my official love letter will be to Brian and Justin.

Hard as it is to believe there was a time when I only logged online long enough to check my email and a few sports scores. The I discovered QAF and more specifically Brian and Justin. My concern for their story sent me searching the internet for any hint of what was to come. There I discovered fandom and fanfic and writing. Everything that came after-LJ, IJ, other fandoms, wonderful friends can be traced back to Brian and Justin. So. . .

Dear Brian and Justin,

Thank you for exiisting even if it was only on my TV screen. Thank you for capturing my imagination and my heart so thoroughly that years later I still think of you and wonder about your future. Thank you for kissing and hugging for fucking and sucking and showing me the beauty of two men together. Thank you for taking chances and dancing to corny old songs and risking everything for what you believe in and most of all for loving each other. Thank you for introducing me to your world and more importantly your family. Thank you for making me laugh, cry, scream in frustration, and cheer loudly. Thank you for making me care and changing my life in ways you cannot imagine.
[livejournal.com profile] qaf_challenges, [livejournal.com profile] qaf_scavenger and the fabulous women who run them!

Today's Fandom Appreciation challenge is to give feedback to reccers, community moderators, challenge organizers etc. I decided to do this in a post about 2 communities that are especially close to my heart, and as I said the fabulous women who run them.

As many of you know, I have been in the QAF fandom for a long time. Fandoms ebb and flow. After the show ended, the QAF fandom was in a transitional phase. Many of the authors and readers I knew were drifting away from QAF, and I wasn't really active enough to know who was coming in. I was writing less, reading less, and basically losing QAF.

Then [livejournal.com profile] qaf_challenges came along (okay there were a few separate challenges run before it became a challenge community, but this is a love song not a history). Suddenly I had a reason to write! Not only that, but there were new stories by authors both new and old at my fingertips. I was excited about QAF all over again. The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] _alicesprings began [livejournal.com profile] qaf_challenges and I will always think of her as the women who reminded me why I love writing for Brian and Justin. She is no longer running challenges herself, but the equally fabulous [livejournal.com profile] xie_xie_xie has stepped in and run some wonderful and unique challenges. And Xie is one of the best challenges moms ever. I can personally attest to the fact that you can send her crazy freakout emails in the last hours before stories are due and she will still speak to you.

So I was writing again, but I was still pretty lost in this newest version of the QAF fandom. Then there was this amazing fandom scavenger hunt run at [livejournal.com profile] qaf_scavenger. It was interactive, it was fun (and really hard), and best of all it was a map to the QAF fandom past and present. I found authors, artists, and communities I had never known about. I was watching scenes I'd forgotten about and loving every minute of it. I fell in love with QAF all over again. Not just Brian and Justin, but all the characters and the crazy fandom they brought me too. [livejournal.com profile] qaf_scavenger had a lot of people working to pull off that first, brilliant hunt, but since then the amazing [livejournal.com profile] happier_bunny and [livejournal.com profile] sanami276 have kept things going. They hunt for the best ways to celebrate Halloween, Un-Valentine's Day, and Pride. They see they fun in fandom and helps us remember to celebrate it. It is also through this community that I first got to know my darling [livejournal.com profile] happier_bunny. I have told her this many times, but it was her welcome that made me feel a part of fandom again.

Without these communities and the wonderful women who give their time and talent to run them, I probably would visit QAF on occasion, but I would be here like I am now. They helped me remember why I loved QAF so much, taught me new ways to look at the characters and scenes and made me feel creative again. I cannot thank them enough.
I was very tempted to skip this challenge because I'm not very graphic inclined. I rarely watch vids, don't look at a lot of picspam, and have less icons than most people. It's not that I don't appreciate graphics because I do. I just rarely seek them out. I think it is because the creation of them is so beyond me. But I am going to rec my two favorite icon makers and the greatest QAF picspam of all time.

[livejournal.com profile] viv_graphics - If I could only have graphics from one person it would be Viv. She has a huge and amazing collection of QAF icons. Although her person passion is Ben and Michael, she shows all of the characters plenty of love when it comes to icon. The icon for this post is hers and my all time favorite icon.

[livejournal.com profile] pattys_iconhome - Her icons are simply gorgeous. And in addition to her fabulous QAF icons, she also does nature and other non fandom icons. Sometimes the appropriate icon does not feature hot naked men.

Proud by [livejournal.com profile] bitchesofbritin - As I mentioned, I don't look at a lot of picspam, but the moment I saw this one I bookmarked it. It is the best representation of why I love QAF I have ever seen. It brought me to tears and reminds me of why I am so proud of my show. Link is to their IJ because I think it is unlocked.
[livejournal.com profile] china_shop is holding a Fandom Appreciation Challenge this week. Every day there is a different task. Visit her LJ to check it out. Today's challenge is to rec 3 fics that are at least 6 months old.

Fic: Chinese Food
Autor: [livejournal.com profile] testdog65
Fandom and Paring: QAF Brian/Justin
Why: This fic was written for the Icon with a Twist Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] qaf_challenges. [livejournal.com profile] testdog65 has an incredible writing style. She writes some of the most intensely visual sex scenes. But there really isn't a lot of sex in this fic. What you have is wonderfully in character humor with a fabulous, unexpected emotional punch at the end.

Fic: No More Than reason
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mosca
Fandom and Pairing: Figure Skating RPF Johnny Weir/Ben Agosto
Why: [livejournal.com profile] mosca can make you believe in any pairing. She blends humor with very real emotion perfectly. her dialogue is incredible. She routinely breaks my heart in the best possible way. From the moment I read her first Johnny/Ben story, I was hopelessly hooked on this pairing. This particular fic is a wonderful look at unexpected possibilities. [livejournal.com profile] mosca is an incredible multi-fandom writer. Even if you don't read this story, go to her LJ for her fic index. She has written in over 40 fandoms and also writes femslash.

The last rec is from Due South. Due South is the fandom I have in common with [livejournal.com profile] china_shop so I wanted to included it here. I lurk 99% of the time in Due South, but maybe this challenge will change that.

Fic: A Passing Feeling
Author: Zillah I am fairly certain Zillah has an LJ, but I don't know it.
Fandom and Paring: Due South Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Why: This is one of my all time favorite comfort fics. I read it a lot. It might seem strange to call it a comfort fic because I cry every time I read, but since the premise revolves around the funeral of one of the main character's mother, I think a few tears are too be expect. To me this story is all about love and emotional honesty. I can't recommend it enough.
Title: Deeper Than Skin
Fandom and Pairing: Figure Skaing RPF Ben Agosto/Johnny Weir
Rating: PG
Timeline: Summer 2008
Summary: Stephane’s arrival gets Johnny thinking
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] mosca. Someday I’ll have your birthday fic. Title taken from the Barenaked Ladies song “Beautiful.”
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I have no personal knowledge of any one in this story. No harm is intended and no money is being made.

Here are several drabbles I have written recently. Most are for the drabble community at IJ. The last drabble was written for [livejournal.com profile] queerpittsburgh. Just to let you know many of my drabbles are gen or focus on couples other than Brian and Justin. I find Brian and Justin very difficult to write drabbles about although a few are about them.

The last drabble challenge on IJ was for rimming. I don't usually write a lot of drabbles, but when you combine two of my favorite things about QAF - Justin and rimming, I get a little carried away. I ended up writing several. The total drabble count for the challenge was over 200 so if you have a chance check them out.

TV Alert

Jun. 2nd, 2008 04:10 pm
If you get the Sundance Channel, they are showing the thought provoking and moving documentary For The Bible Tells Me So tonight (June 2) at 9pm EST. They will show it again Jun 18 10am EST. I saw it a few months ago, and I highly recommend it. Here's the description from Sundance Channel's website:

Appeared at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival
Bravely tackling one of the most politically and religiously divisive issues in contemporary America, documentary filmmaker Daniel Karslake presents a consideration of the intersection of scripture and homosexuality. Profiled are five devout families who each have dealt with the disclosure that a relative was gay or lesbian. Discussion is given to the importance of mutual understanding and unconditional parental love, while often-cited Biblical passages come in for scholarly interpretation and reconsideration. "Admirable and moving." - Salon.
